Let's assume that things are working properly. What do you do now?
Oy! What a question. The Linux distribution you have just installed is a powerful working environment. There is so much which can be done that no single website or book can hope to show it all to you.
But fear not, brave heart. Before we take our leave of you, we will at least point the way. In this section, we will show you a few basic survival skills (also known as commands) to send you on your way.
In the next few pages, we will discuss a few steps which you will want to take to make your machine a safer place to work. You will want to do the following things the first time you log onto your machine. If you are unfamiliar with Unix text editors such as vi, then you may wish to postpone some of the more difficult activities.
This is neither a comprehensive, nor even a necessary list of things to do. They are merely a set of suggestions of things which many people find useful. Attempting to explain the nuances of each of these items is beyond the scope of this document. Comprehensive, if often opaque, documentation is available for each of these commands.
